Allergies

La Retraite is a ‘NUT FREE ZONE’.  We have both students and staff who suffer from a number of allergies. Nut allergies can be particularly serious and even life-threatening. Please be extra vigilant regarding this and remind your daughters. Extra care should be taken with:-

  • Snacks
  • Packed Lunches
  • Birthday Sweets or Cakes
  • Cereal boxes, which should NOT be brought into school

Medical Conditions

If your daughter is suffering from any Medical Condition, please ensure that the school is informed. You can write a letter or fill in a medical form, which can be obtained from the student or visitors’ reception. Please update us if there are any changes in your daughter’s circumstances. We are happy to liaise with medical staff if they wish to make contact with us. Extra care should be taken if your daughter is to attend any activity out of school. Please ensure that the lead member of staff organising the activity is fully informed of all medical matters including symptoms to look out for, medication and its administration, and also instructions if an emergency should occur.

Medication can be left at Student reception – please ensure that it is correctly labelled and that reception staff clearly understand how and when it is to be administered. Please monitor the dates for the usage of medication.

The school has appointed first aid trained staff, who can carry out first aid if your daughter becomes unwell. (First aid trained staff are not able to offer advice on more serious issues that require a GP).

The school nurse attends school on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 12.30pm-1.30pm and can offer general advice on physical, mental, emotional and social health. Your daughter can make an appointment to meet with her by enquiring at Student Reception.  If you wish to talk to the school nurse, please contact the school.

Accessibility

La Retraite is a large school with lots of stairs! If your daughter ever suffers an injury which would make it difficult for her to walk around the school (e.g. if she has crutches, or a limb is bandaged or plastered) please contact the school immediately. The Key Stage Pastoral Support Manager will undertake a risk assessment and determine which classes are accessible – a lift key may be issued.

Some classes may be inaccessible and your daughter may have to work in the school's Dining Hall at these times. In some exceptional circumstances, it may be more appropriate for your daughter to remain at home; the Key Stage Pastoral Support Manager will ensure that work is forwarded onto her. We would be most grateful to have information regarding your daughter’s condition from a health professional.
