Information on Covid-19 Outbreak

Please check this page regularly as information will be updated frequently.

Wednesday 18 March 2020

Dear Parent/Carer,

Until we receive further guidance from the government, the school will still be open as usual tomorrow and Friday for Year 11, 13 and the children of Key Workers.

For Year 11 & 13

Students will attend lessons as normal. If their teacher is not in, the students will make use of the Sixth Form Study Centres. There will be staff supervising the study rooms and on hand to support the students. Year 11 will go to the Year 12 study centre and Year 13 to the Sixth Form canteen. There will be a note on both reception doors advising the students on which staff are not in.

A register of students will be taken in the study centre as well as in classes.

For Children of Key Workers

These will continue to work in the library

The school dining room will continue to be open at break time and lunchtime.

For All Other Students

Teaching staff are currently busy putting work on SMHW and Google Classroom. Students should be making use of these facilities during the school day

If your daughter/son receives Free School Meals, please contact reception to ensure you receive your voucher.

Again, thank you for your patience and great support.

Best wishes,

Dominic Malins, Headteacher

Sunday 15 March, 2020 - Update to Parents Regarding the School's Response to Coronavirus

Dear Parents and Guardians,

A brief update on the school's response to the Coronavirus is as follows:

We have decided to postpone all trips and events, including the Year 9 Parents' Evening (which was due to take place Thursday 19 March 2020) until after Easter.

We have a couple of staff members who have had flu-like symptoms. They have not been tested for Coronavirus by the NHS as there are patients with more pressing needs. As a precaution, these staff members have self-isolated and we have arranged for the classrooms to be deep cleaned.

All parents should follow the advice given by the NHS - please click here to visit the NHS Coronavirus webpage - and self-isolate your child if they display the following symptoms:

  • A high temperature - you feel hot to the touch on your chest or back, or
  • A new, continuous cough - this means you've started coughing repeatedly.

Kind regards,

Dominic Malins, Headteacher

Tuesday 10 March, 2020 - Letter to Parents Regarding Coronavirus Planning

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We would like to reassure you that the school is following the advice given to us by Public Health England. We are planning so that in the event that the school may have to close, we are well able to support students working at home:

For your information, in the event of the school closing:

  • all communication with parents will be via our website.  The telephone will not be used.
  • the school will follow national guidance from Public Health England and the NHS regarding closure.
  • you should also follow the guidance from Public Health England regarding how to keep your child safe and should check this regularly for updates

Studying at home:

  • we will continue to educate your child at home via work set on Show My Homework which can be accessed from the school website.
  • Show My Homework can be accessed on a mobile phone even if you do not have a laptop at home.
  • please check your child knows how to log on to Show My Homework and ask at school if they have forgotten their log on details.
  • Show my Homework can be viewed online even if you have forgotten your log in details.

Yours faithfully,

Dominic Malins, Headteacher
