Message to Parents Regarding School Closure, January 2021, from Mr Dutton, Assistant Headteacher
Following the latest government guidelines released yesterday, I am writing to confirm updated details of your child’s online learning from next week.
From Monday 4 January, all students will work online. Students will continue to follow their normal timetable online using the school’s virtual learning platform, Microsoft Teams. Students should log on to Microsoft Teams at the start of each lesson where they will be invited to join their online classroom by their teacher. The ‘live’ section of each lesson will last approximately 30 minutes and will consist of an explanation/ tutorial led by the teacher. After this, students will be provided with follow up tasks dependent on the length of the lesson which they should aim to complete in line with their usual timetable.
From Monday 11 January, all of year 11 and year 13 will be expected in school, where their normal timetables will operate. We will also be expecting a small number of Year 12 students who have exams in early January and these individuals will be notified separately. Students in years 7, 8, 9, 10 and the rest of year 12 will continue their learning online.
We are currently expecting all students to return to school on 18 January and I will be in contact to confirm this in due course.
Student attendance at the recent virtual learning days has been very high and these days have enabled us to ensure that almost all students are able to access their learning online. However, if you do need support, please contact the Pastoral Support Manager in charge of your child’s year group. It is very important that your child continues their education online and the school will be following its usual procedures regarding absence when a child is not online at the start of their first lesson each day.
As explained in recent communications, our experiences in rolling out these lessons have enabled us to develop a way to conduct these lessons safely, so please be reassured that your child will only be engaging with their peers and their subject teacher. We would appreciate your assistance in encouraging your child to turn off their camera and microphone while they are attending these lessons.
