Spotlight on: TransitionPosted on: 17th Sep 2020
Transition is an integral aspect of our student experience, stemming from the branch NURTURE that creates our community for which we are so well known. We understand that moving from primary to secondary school can be a daunting experience and also, how important it is in the life of a child and their family.
As such, our dedicated Transition Programme enables girls to meet their new teachers, build friendships and familiarise themselves in their new environment, long before their first day:
- The Transition Programme kicks off following offer letters with an invitation to our exclusive Friendship Afternoon, offering families and pupils the opportunity experience life at La Retraite and feel a sense of ease with the prospect of joining secondary school
- A series of online events and Transition Booklets allows children to learn more about the school, freely ask questions and complete activities to share with their peers and form tutor on their first day
- Taster and Induction Days allow children to navigate the school, experience lessons, meet with their peers and teachers and adjust as the only year group in the school
- Retreat Day entails specially tailored workshops which encourage pupils to come together to understand the La Retraite School Scripture, enjoy a day filled with fun and excitement and experience a real sense of belonging and community from the very beginning.
Last year we were unable to fulfil the programme, however we have still made great effort to ensure every student is settled in; with their teachers taking the time get to know every girls’ passions, interests, personalities and the ways in which they learn best, enabling us to shape the pathway that puts them on track for success.
With dreams of attending university to study Medicine or Law, Heber alumni student Heli (below) was drawn to La Retraite for its Outstanding Ofsted status, long history of success and reputation as one of the top schools in the country.
“The change from primary to secondary school has been huge, but La Retraite helped me to settle in through virtual meetings, answering questions, transition work online and calls with teachers, which really prepared me for what was to come. I wanted to attend La Retraite because of their results, teaching and school values and for these reasons I would recommend the school to any girl”.
