A Message to the Fashion IndustryPosted on: 17th Sep 2020
One of our extremely talented Year 13 Art students Keisha, recently had her work displayed in an online gallery for FAD.
An award-winning, industry-focused fashion programme for creative Londoners, FAD has launched the career of fashion professionals for years, and showcases young creatives who are raising their voices to call for a more equal, just and sustainable future for the fashion history.
Focusing on aesthetics, issues and histories that have long been ignored or appropriated by mainstream fashion, themes include migration, colonialism, colourism and Windrush, as well as celebrating Afro hair and Black and South Asian culture. Take a look at Keisha’s outstanding pieces, right.
‘’My message to the fashion industry and to all institutions is to accept black people in their full form. Stopping black people from fully expressing themselves for who we really are causes a lot of problems for us. The negative stigma around black hair, is part of the problem and is my focus for this piece.’’
