Celebration of the Year of the WordPosted on: 16th Dec 2020
The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales have designated 2020 as The God Who speaks: A Year of the Word to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Verbum Domini, Pope Benedict XVI’s Apostolic Exhortation on ‘The Word of the Lord’.
This also commemorates the 1600th anniversary of the death of St Jerome, who translated the Bible into Latin. The Year of the Word is a time where we are invited to celebrate, live and share God's word.
In our school, we are celebrating the Year of the Word by organising sessions for Key Stage 3 and 4 students. During this year, Father Paul Kyne had delivered two sessions for Year 7 - an overview of the Bible which included some instructions on how to interpret the Bible in the Catholic Tradition, and focussed on a few passages within each section of the Bible, Pentateuch - Genesis 3; Historical Books - Ruth 1:16; Wisdom Literature 7:22-25 (Eulogy of Wisdom); Prophets Mt 5v17 fulfilment of Law & Prophets.
Father Kyne also gave an overview of the Gospels and John, and a quick overview of Pauls' Epistles & Letters and finally Revelation 12. Fr. Paul completed the final sessions for Year 7 this month.
