Portuguese After-School Classes – Cooking SessionsPosted on: 2nd Mar 2021
One of our talented teachers hosts Portuguese enrichment classes for students. Our diverse student and staff body encourages our desire to promote community languages and enforces the importance we place on students practising their mother tongue.
This week, students have been baking in Portuguese after school, allowing them to opportunity to further explore their culture, practise their language skills – and enjoy something delicious, no doubt!
Feedback from the students:
I really enjoyed the cooking classes as it gave me a different perspective on Portuguese, and it also helped me with my baking skills. I really enjoyed it because it gave me different recipes and it was fun. I also liked it because it was something different, instead of looking at a screen I learnt different ways of cooking. - Catarina, Year 9
I have enjoyed the cooking classes we have been doing. We are able to make nice things and also practice Portuguese as well. It is a nice break from sitting in front of a computer. - Karyma, Year 9
During those lessons, we were able to cook and communicate with our class, I really enjoyed it since it was another way to participate in doing something different from the usual for this pandemic. Instead of starring at a screen all day and doing the work, we were able to enjoy something different that could have been the first time for many of us, it also brought us together, to communicate with each other when we did not understand what we had to put in for the ingredients. - Jessica, Year 9
I really liked the lessons that we cooked because it was really nice having a break from lessons for a while to cook and it made me happier that we didn’t have any work to do. I really liked making different cakes and recipes and it showed me different ways and different things I can make for my family and to eat and make in the future. I really liked these lessons and I hope we have some more fun activities in the lessons. All the cakes were very good and delicious. - Sabrina, Year 9
