Mental Health Week

Posted on: 3rd Mar 2021

Children’s Mental Health Week aims to raise awareness of the problems and issues faced by children, and in particular, during this time of uncertainty. At La Retraite, staff utilised PSHE lessons to deliver virtual lessons, offering advice and support for our students and suggesting activities to support with their mental health.

The theme of ‘express yourself’ encouraged students to discover a creative outlet to share feelings, thoughts, and ideas, such as through art, writing, music and dance. Sessions focused on self-expression, and its importance in generating feel-good endorphins, boosting self-esteem, ability to connect with others, create a sense of identity and empowerment and help students to feel empowered. In feedback sessions, we were glad to hear that students found the lessons valuable and took away learnings they will use in the future.

“The lesson made me feel delighted because I was able to learn new things that I did not know and was able to use express it and use it. I have learnt that we should all express ourselves, because we feel more in control of our thoughts and feelings and we understand them more quickly. Being able to express ourselves means we can better manage those thoughts and emotions. We should not let others tell us how to express ourselves and not stay quiet”.

“I have learnt the importance of taking care of your mental health and understand how to express myself”.

“The lessons made me realise I should love myself more, and I can take more breaks to relax. Health is an important in every stage of life, and the activities made me reflect on what more I can do to create a good mentality”.
