Model UN

Posted on: 1st Mar 2021

At the end of February, a group of our Year 12 Politics students attended the Model UN weekend event, hosted by the London School of Economics.

Throughout the event, students were assigned to different countries and social issue groups (human rights, defence and protection, world health) and spent the first two days debating with other delegates from across Europe and the rest of the world to create resolutions, amendments, and bills. On the last day, students participated in crisis committee meetings regarding covid and vaccines, resolving hypothetical issues with different nations.

The event was a fantastic experience for our students, with guest speakers from LSE about what the university does, how youth can get involved in politics and information about studying undergraduate courses at the university.

Bianca, Germany; Human Rights Committee: “This experience really helped to develop my public speaking skills, was entertaining and really beneficial as a networking opportunity to meet new friends, informative speakers and offer the opportunity for lively debate. There was a lot to take away from it and it encouraged me to research my own country’s foreign policy”.

Safiyah, North Korea; Social Cultural Humanitarian Issues: “Attending the Model UN weekend really helped to boost my confidence, see how other people speak and learn from them and I really enjoyed working on my assigned challenging countries and social issues!”
