Inspiring the Next Generation!Posted on: 2nd Apr 2021
Kings College London African Caribbean Medical Society (ACMS) incorporates a team of students from African and Caribbean backgrounds, studying medicine at Kings College London. Founded in 2018, KCL ACMS has contributed to the wider community through outreach projects, one of which is the African Caribbean Raising Aspirations Programme. At La Retraite, our team is committed to inspiring the next generation of young people to pursue higher education and a career in medicine.
Our Year 9,10,11 and 12 students have been lucky to benefit from a series of mentorship workshops. These workshops intend to improve students knowledge and understanding of the university applications process, develop independent research skills to enable students to find degree entry requirements, introduce the concept of the UCAT questions and develop critical thinking, explore both campus and city based universities, explore the ways to create a work-life balance when studying, appreciate the value of setting goals, understand what SMART Goal setting is, establish short and long term goals and develop knowledge linked to medical conditions and its relevance to medicine today.
We are incredibly grateful to KCL ACMS for providing our students with this valuable and explorative opportunity which we hope opens their eyes and broadens their horizons. We look forward to finding out more about how their sessions have supported them, next term.
